Go to Solution. Solved by DanFaba. With all due respect ahmed, why should your response be accepted as a solution when you said “I think This indicates that you don’t know the answer. Assuming you are just responding in a polite manner, and we thank you for that Sincerely, Aaron. I know that the Extensions have not been released yet.
So that’s the question. When will they be released and more important: Why does Autodesk after all these years still not release them the same date the new version of the software is brought in to the market. The give us new software that we can’t use at the same time.
It’s like a car that you buy but can’t get out of the garage because there no gas in it. Autodesk is not releasing the extensions or add-ins directly with the software, as the software itself needs to be developed, and the extensions work on top of the finished software.
No add-ins can be created until the design of Revit is complete. The reason for which these complements are released later is that Revit, on its own, can be used to work just fine. The design of add-ons, plugins and complements to Revit takes time, as each has to be modified from the previous design to fit into the newer version of the product. Also, with the software just being recently released, it is unthinkable to consider all releases of plugins will be done in tandem.
These are created and released periodically, so that they can be implemented and tested incrementally, and avoid the opportunity of these plugins causing issues with each other, due to a hasty release.
The programming needs to be done carefully, so that all of these functions in Revit can be used adequately, and reduce or eliminate entirely the possibility of internal conflict due to this programming. I do hope you understand that this is not by any means an action to hinder the progress of our customers, but rather a delicate schedule to keep balanced the functions of the existing software with the implemented changes for the newer version.
The things you pointed out are correct accept the point that Revit works well out of the box for me as customer. If this was the case no add-ins and Extensions would be needed.
Without them I can’t make the new Revit version put into action. Dan, Thank you for your response, but let me explain the issue that I have. I spent at least an hour looking for the extensions, searching my account and search engines trying to locate the add-ins because the “What’s New in ” documentation says “Over new steel connections”. If that would have been worded differently, we wouldn’t be here wasting more time It’s not a new feature if it is not included in the base software.
Clarity from autodesk is something that we have always hoped for but have never received. The extensions were very useful. Without them , I can say I almost have a worse version of Revit running this year. It is available now. I just downloaded the extension. I have installed the Autodesk Desktop App which warns me if there is a update available for my Autodesk Building Suite Premium software. That is a poor excuse. Does Autodesk not develop the Revit Extensions?
Then why do they not have access to their own software, and why are the Extensions released months after the product release? Makes no sense. If you have installed the Autodesk Desktop App on your system you will get a notification whenever there is a new piece of software ready to be downloaded.
Thanks, I already have the REX installed. My comment was about the delay between Revit release or any Autodesk product release and the extensions release. I am a software developer myself with several apps on the Autodesk Exchange store. Why can they not do the same? The Revit Civil Extensions are not available yet, why not? How difficult is it to simply rebuild the existing code for the new release? I do it every year, takes 20 minutes.
Very annoying to have to wait 6 months before we can actually use new releases from Autodesk since we rely on the extensions and addins.
Thanks for your reply. Same problem here. After downloading the new software it can’t be set in to action because it’s not complete. Perhaps Revit or whatever other software title means we can make use of it effectively in the year and not the year I agree fully with you here. We have a civil engineering student here that currently cannot work because of the lack of a compatible extension for We can’t roll back a single machine for him either since our infrastructure is built on network licensing which means we had to take down the to put the into place.
Very frustrating that a new version is released without the accompanying add-ons that are necessary. Revit Structure Forum. Share your knowledge, ask questions, and explore popular Revit Structure topics.
