I don’t actually know the reason, but think it is due to the drives USB Controller.. I have had other USB drives with a strange ID as well, which was for sure due to the drives controller I have smaller Seagate USB 3. If it does, then we know it’s a drive error, otherwise it’s an error specific to the PC. I’d guess it’s maybe the controller on board the external drive failing, causing Windows to default to another driver to try to access it, but I’m not entirely sure.

If switching USB ports fixes it for a while, then my guess is Windows is re-registering the correct external drive driver for it, until the on board controller fails again. Or there could be a faulty sector on the drive causing errors. Actually, see if chkdsk turns up any errors on the drive. Let me know what happens! Note: Non-Microsoft websites are linked.
